Migration readiness: the questions to answer before moving
A useful migration plan starts with dependencies, ownership, and acceptance evidence—not just a list of items to transfer.
Begin with the business change
A tenant consolidation, acquisition, separation, or application move has a business reason and a target date. Establish what the destination needs to support and which activities must continue during the transition.
Build an inventory of relationships
List workloads, identities, devices, applications, integrations, and data owners. Record what depends on what. A transfer that looks complete may still leave a broken workflow if an identity, permission, or interface is missing.
Define evidence before choosing the path
Agree how records, relationships, permissions, and application behavior will be checked. Identify who accepts the result and how exceptions will be handled. This gives tool selection and pilot design a concrete purpose.
Prove the route and plan the handover
Use representative pilots, define migration waves, and document cutover and recovery responsibilities. Include communications, training, and operating ownership. Readiness means the team can explain both how the move happens and how the destination will be run.
